The difference between inlays and onlays is how they are used based on where they are placed. Inlays are used to treat cavities that are on the flatter part of teeth, while onlays are placed on the cusps (or non-flat) surfaces of the teeth. Onlays are typically bigger as they cover more of the tooth. Each of them function and restore teeth in the same way.
